UP Fair: the jologs and the non-jologs converging in one single space

“kung marami ang nagsasabi na ang UP ay microcosm ng lipunan, ito na siguro yun- the jologs and the non-jologs converging in one single space. although, hindi naman talaga ako naniniwala na microcosm ng lipunan ang UP. sheltered pa nga tayo sa UP. paglabas sa lipunan, mas nakakaloka. sa labas ng UP madami pa ring conservative, maraming unenlightened, maraming boring, maraming singkitid ng capillaries ko sa ilong ang pag-iisip.”

gingmaganda talks about the madness that happened at the recently concluded UP Fair. She ends succintly:

maski saang sector ka pa ng lipunan nanggagaling, dapat may style ka pa rin sa panggugulo, dapat laging sophisticated ang atake at hindi yung ganitong mga ill-conceived na pamamaraan ng kajologan.

Alman makes the same observation:

“lately though, judging from my visits this year, the UP fair has been claimed by forces outside of UP. with ticket prices at less than P100, and a slew of rock bands singing at least 4 songs each, the event attracts not just students of the university, but also these young scoundrels who have strange ideas about punk fashion, whose main purpose, it seems, is to dive into a mosh pit and body slam everyone around.” (photo by normski)
