Suspicious Sulpicios
Another terrible, terrible sea tragedy in the Philippines with over 700 missing.
- Tingog.com sums it up succinctly: “In many instances, it is the coziness of those in the passenger ship industry, as well as those who provide oversight to this industry, that has made such tragedies possible.”
- Reuters has a list of Philippine Sea Disasters: “Dec 1987 - A total of 4,386 die in world’s worst peacetime shipping disaster, as ferry Dona Paz, owned by Sulpicio Lines, and an oil tanker collide off Mindoro Island.” (via alternation101)
- Nagueno lists a couple of lessons we should have learned by now! “…local officials (like Albay Gov. Joey Salceda) should not be so stupid as to rely on PAGASA’s forecasts alone in making their decisions. “
