Feedback from a pro
Yesterday I sent a message to Iggy who I found via Cnet Asia’s blogs and within two hours, he responded with a critique of whatsikat. (He wasn’t kidding when his profile said online 24/7)
Most of his comments talk about future enhancements and further functionality which is probably why he is the “business development officer” of yehey. (Think forward!)
In a nutshell here’s what he said:
“…I mean it is true that it borders on information overload, but that’s the whole point of having the internet anyway…”
“…Might I suggest putting in your Google Adsense account. You may earn a few dollars here and there, who knows?…”
“…I wish there was some way I could pick what categories I wanted to view more of instead of having to sift through all the categories…”
He’s the second person to ask for the capability to sift through all the categories. Joel Spolsky talked about the “paradox of choice” where he says that more choices = more headaches and I tend to believe that.
But I have an idea of a compromise… How about “Whatsikat: Pop” with just the chismis, celebrity blog and fashion section? And maybe “Whatsikat: News” with just the serious stuff?
Iggy also suggested that I let people “add” to the content. For example if you know the blog of an artista and you want to add it to the ‘celebrity bloggers’ section to share it with other whatsikat readers, then you should be able to do that. Very good suggestion… but how do I translate that to code? Something like a cross between whatsikat and a wiki?
Very good suggestions from Mr Javellana but in a time-honored computer science tradition, I will… do nothing.
Until Sunday, I will refrain from promoting whatsikat on my YM or multiply or even talking about it. I will leave it alone for now and see what kind of life it takes. More importantly, it will give me time to stop, step back and think.
hey pao, thought i’d check whatsikat again, haven’t looked in a while (sorry). looks like you’ve been busy. what about just asking people to submit sites that they think are worthy of being regularly indexed/mined for news?
thanks for the comment javi… that’s still in the works… i’m trying to figure out how to do it pa hehehe…
