But what is whatsikat?
Literally in Filipino, whatsikat translates to “what is popular?” But what it is really? Not quite a blog, not quite a portal. Maybe you could call it a feed-reader filtered through a Filipino lens. But I’m not really answering the question am I?
Here are my Top Three one-sentence descriptions of whatsikat:
- A dashboard to the filipino zeitgeist: although it is technically precise, the problem with this sentence is that it sounds too academic. not a lot of people know that the german word “zeitgeist” means “spirit of the times”. Plus, the “dashboard” metaphor is still fairly new.
- Fresh pinoy chuvah on one page: Eto, ok din but i’m not comfortable using the word “chuvah” because the word connotes showbiz chismis which isn’t just what the page is all about.
- Pinoy popurls clone: also a good description but it will only work if you already know what popurls is!
Gets?
